Let them eat cake!

I will not be continuing the Indiana journey blog series, I apologize, but it's just been too long since the trip and I've got plenty of other exciting desserts that I've experienced and am dying to share with you all!

Today, it's all about Babycakes. This is a lovely cupcakery in Hillcrest with the moistest, most delicious cake experiences you will have. My recent discovery was the Shorty- a vanilla cupcake with custard on the inside, white buttercream frosting, and topped with a chocolate dipped strawberry. It is truly delicious! But go ahead and try all of their cakes that sound interesting, they've got loads of em! My mom just tried the lemon cake the other day and said it was AMAZING! So whether you're a fruity cake person, or a rich chocolatey cake person, you will find something guaranteed.

Also, a MUST HAVE when you go, is the Mexican Mocha. It's one of the guys that works there's (I don't know if he's the owner or manager or just works there) grandmother's secret recipe. It's premade and all they do is heat it up, none of the employees even know how to make it, either way, its a REVELATION! You're taste buds will thank me for this creamy chocolatey goodness, I assure you. =)

Indiana, hold the Jones I

Ah I apologize for not updating, I was in Indianapolis, Indiana with the family! But I did keep track of most of the desserts (you see, we had dessert quite often- a small one after lunch, and your usual dessert after dinner). So because I'm playing "catch up" and I don't want you to read through a long drearyyyy postttttt....Zzzzzz...... See! That's what would happen, hence I am providing you lovely people with a series! So we'll try to keep this interesting and fun!




Dessert numero uno! A simple carrot cake catered by a company whose name escapes me right now...No matter! If you are interested let me know and I will find it for you. When provided with a tray of brownie triangles and carrot cake triangles, my mother and I (the dessert connoisseurs of the bunch) weren't thinking we were going to be very impressed. The brownies tasted like little debbie snacks (which I have nothing against, sometimes a little debbie snack can be good after a nice pb & j) but the carrot cake was surprisingly tasty. Very moist cake, with delicious pieces of raisins with a smooth cream cheese frosting YUM! Well done surprising us catering company!

Little bites of heaven



So these little guys are composed of 3 layers- a blueberry, surrounded by acai, covered in dark chocolate= the perfect snack to fulfill your sweet tooth during the day. 180 caories per 1/4 cup, sold in a bag at Costco for $16 I think? Great for in the desk, something to munch on that's not bad for you and satisfies that little chocolate/sweet craving throughout the day. Enjoy!

It's a World of Color




I'm going to bring up a favorite subject of mine again- Disney. In this case: Disneyland.

I could tell you about all of the desserts you need to try while at the happiest place on earth, but instead I want to direct your attention towards an inspirational show. Disney's World of Color at Disney California Adventure is the epitome of a disney lover's perfect show. It incorporates all of the "Disney Classics" with a beautiful light/water show.

Now I'm a bit of a softie when it comes to Disney's inspirational messages like "Dreams come true" and "You can do anything if you just believe" so it was a bit of a tear-jerker for me. But it's also one of the most technically interesting shows you'll ever see. The Disney imagineers have done it again with their water system in the Paradise Pier, turning a water fountain into a glorious water spectacular with color lighting that will blow your mind! But caution: front row gets wet (and I mean WET, and sorry, there's no escape) but they clearly mark the wet zones so it's definitely possible to stay dry.

It's truly an experience not to be missed! Especially if your a fan of Beauty and the Beast (that classic seemed to come up a lot, as well as Little Mermaid).

All I've got to say is that Disney's done it again.

Size matters




Went to Buca di Beppo last night with the gang. Dinner was as good as it gets for super Amercanized italian food (Margherita pizza and a spicy chicken rigatoni, both probably the best things to order on the menu if you ask me). Then our gazes fell upon a monstrous looking ice cream sundae... Love at first sight among the table? Quite possibly. We had to get our hands on one of them.

Let me tell you- when the "Colossal Brownie Sundae" arrived in it's frosty, oversized martini-looking glass...we were in awe. Now, like I said, I think Buca is pretty standard, not exceptional and certainly not fantastic Italian food, but my god...this dessert was PHENOMENAL. The whole table was in debate over whether it was chocolate gelato vs ice cream, it had the texture of gelato but we later were told it was ice cream. Either way- great texture, perfect amount of chocolate and vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup with delicious, melt-in-your-mouth brownie pieces, all covered in a fluffy, light whipped cream and colored sprinkles (topped with a cherry of course).

Our group of 6 high school/college students could not finish the entire thing, but we all left completely satisfied (myself a little too much, sometimes I forget my bounds when I taste a good dessert).

Verdict? A necessity for a group going to Buca. Make sure you have your large spoon skills at the ready for fighting your friends for a bite. Your taste buds and sweet tooth will thank you.

Disney Magic

Lovely morning all!

And hello sunshine!

Last night the delectable dessert that made my sweet tooth cry out for joy was a white chocolate cookie from Marceline's Confectionary Shop. These cookies are sold all over Disneyland as well (the candy store on Main Street & at the bakery in Critter Country). They hit the spot after a light meal, a tad crumbly but a soft inside that makes the angels of food sing (yes i'm sure there are angels of food, I've heard them on multiple occasions).

And then I had to of course get a bag of watermelon jellybeans- one of my weaknesses, but after all they are the BEST jellybean ;)

It's the little things...

Stepping out of your comfort zone can be either a terrifying experience or a window to new opportunities when it comes to food (I prefer the new opportunities but hey I won't judge). I have had one of the most delightful food experiences while in Santa Barbara and it's only been one day (I'm telling you EXPLORE and then? EXPLORE SOME MORE!).

The trip up required necessary travel food- my dad and my favorites consist of:
-Jerky
-Roasted Garlic Rye Chips (like the kind that come in trail mix but we just get an entire bag of just those so we don't have to pick through the rest, c'mon we all know that's the best part anyways)
-and some water
This really energized the trip because the World Cup Finals on ESPN Radio really didn't (Sorry, but it was terribly uneventful compared to how hyped up it was and how it was supposed to be)

One of the best stops in Santa Barbara is the pier, it's a necessity really. Try the Longboard's Grill and might I recommend a phenomenal Mac N Cheese with generous amounts of lobster chunks? Oh and if that wasn't enough it comes with their famous Cheesy Garlic Bread and a great ocean view. Then you MUST make a stop at the Candy Shop and get the Double Chocolate Truffle- it will melt in your mouth- 2 layers of creamy chocolate (milk coated in dark with smooth, milky truffle inside).

Finally, if you are a Mocha lover like myself make it a priority to visit the Northstar Coffee Co. on State St- simply put: It's a taste of chocolatey heaven. I kid you not, it's THAT good. With a hint of cinnamon balancing the chocolate keeps it from being "too sweet", it is truly the perfect balance.

Try the fish, tip your waitress

For all you beginning foodies out there, or even experienced ones- I'll give a tip every so often about things you may or may not know when it comes to eating out, or in for that matter. Let me hear your opinions! Or add on if you feel the urge, don't fight it.

This is something I learned from my mom:
Tip #1: A place can have phenomenal food, but if the dessert is made by the chef take a pass and grab some ice cream or a piece of chocolate instead. Pastry Chefs learn about baking desserts- they're the professionals. Usually regular chefs don't have that background, so go ahead and taste but don't say I didn't warn you.

Free Sample

Here's a little taste of who I am:

I'm a San Diegan with a love for food- especially desserts (didn't know that huh?). I could probably tell you some of the best eateries to visit in San Diego, just tell me what you're in the mood for (like for me pizza always sounds good and hands-down its all about Bronx).
Another thing to know about the Delightful Dessertier is that when I get a craving- which is quite frequently- I know exactly what I want and where I want it from. I only hope you can be entertained by this little quirk of mine and don't develop it yourself. It is truly a burden to bear and can be costly (mostly in gas money traveling all the way to Cardiff just for a donut from VG's), but that's my job to find the places and to tell you about it. I'm also all about deals and inexpensive bites.
This blog will hopefully be entertaining and assist in curing that sweet tooth we all get after a nice meal. It's my hope that this will be the place you go to when you're thinking to yourself, "Wow I just need a little sweet something to top that off and I am totally set for the day." That's what I'm all about- the little things with a big impact.

So kick back, relax, and enjoy the desserts just waiting to be had.
